Commissioning Items
|
Commissioning an individual item can be a very special experience - a chance for you to work together with myself as an artist, designer and craftsman to create an item that is special and that will be unique to our partnership. But to get the best from commissioning an item there are some guidelines that I would suggest are followed:
|
|
 |
You may want to leave the design entirely to myself; you might want to design an item yourself; you might see an item on my web pages that you like but would prefer a different shape or size or stone; or you might have a particular object in mind but not have any idea of what is possible for a given price.
Communication is the key. Tell me your thoughts and wishes.
What are you trying to communicate in your commission?
What do you want to say or for the receiver of the commission to feel?
Have you some idea, even a rough sketch, of the sort of item you are after?
What price range are you looking at?
Will the item be in base metals, silver or gold?
If you are considering gold do you have a preference for 9ct or 18ct gold, yellow, red or white gold?
Do you have an idea of the size?
Might you want a special box or an engraved inscription?
The more information you can provide the easier for me to suggest designs that might meet your needs. But if you don't like a design be honest and say so before it is too late or too costly to change!
It is usual to give permission for me to have the commission photographed for my portfolio. Although the copyright of the design remains with me and I might design and make items in a similar style as part of my creative development, I will not make exact copies of your commission.
|
|
Initial consultations are free, but once the outline specification and delivery dates are agreed on I might require a nominal design fee - refundable against the commission should you decide to go ahead with the full commission. When you are satisfied with the design, specifications and delivery schedule please confirm in writing, at which time I will require a deposit - usually 25 percent of the agreed final cost, but in some cases a higher deposit may be required, with the balance less any nominal design fees to be paid prior to delivery. To pay the design fee and or deposit and final payment via PayPal you will be sent a reference number and amounts payable to enter on the Commission Agreed page.
